Music Lessons at TMC

THE MUSIC CELLAR TEACHING TEAM IS DEVOTED TO MUSIC EDUCATION, and we pride ourselves on our innovative techniques. It has always been our belief that music lessons should be affordable and this is reflected in our tuition fees.

INTRODUCTORY PROGRAMS (Drums, Guitar, Piano/Keyboard, Bass, Voice and Ukulele)

  • We offer introductory programs in each instrument. These programs consist of 6 private lessons, and are intended to give students an affordable opportunity to try something new. The tuition fee for the Intro program is $105.
  • Acoustic guitars and drum kits are available for a small rental fee. (TMC does not sell musical instruments, but we will be happy to provide guidance when purchases are planned.)
  • The lesson content is not restricted to a specific curriculum. No previous musical experience is required. (If students have had some previous experience, the program content will be modified accordingly.)
  • At the end of the 6-week program, feedback is given to parents and there is an opportunity to ask questions and plan future goals. Students carry on in their same time slot, and the tuition fee changes to $77 monthly.
  • Lesson slots are available Monday to Friday starting at 3pm, as well as Saturdays and Sundays during the day.

PRIVATE LESSONS (Drums, Guitar, Piano/Keyboard, Bass & Vocal Coaching) and EDUCATIONAL CLINICS

  • Lesson structure is individualized to match the goals of each student. We recognize that the learning styles of students vary considerably, and we make every effort to alter our approach and methods accordingly. Input from parents is always welcome.
  • The majority of our students attend ½ hour private lessons, once a week. (There are some students who choose one-hour sessions, either weekly or every other week.)
  • The monthly tuition fee is $77.
  • Instruction is provided on the highest quality of acoustic and electronic instruments.
  • Studios are spacious and each is equipped with a computer to use as a valuable educational reference.
  • This private lesson format continues during the months of September to April inclusively. Early in May, the format of our school changes to band rehearsals, where students have the valuable opportunity to share their music with other students of similar age and experience.
  • Lesson slots are available Monday to Friday starting at 3pm, as well as Saturdays and Sundays during the day.
  • Every year there is at least one special event featuring a solo artist or band. Presentations are given specifically to our students to educate, entertain and inspire! Artists that have appeared in the recent past include: Doc Walker, the Rascal Flatts touring band, Indicator Indicator, Brent Fitz and Todd Kerns who are the drummer and bass player with Slash... just to name a few. We believe that these types of events add greatly to the musical experience available at The Music Cellar!

  • For those piano students who are interested, instruction in the The Royal Conservatory of Music program is available.
  • We will prepare students for both practical and theory exams, and we are proud to say that our students have a history of producing excellent test scores!
  • Students may choose to study from the RCM course exclusively, but most prefer a combination of classical music and more contemporary styles. (Other students who do not wish to have any classical music at all, may focus all of their efforts on other types of music. It is always our goal to provide lesson plans that are specific to each student.)

  • In the month of May and first two weeks of June, private lessons are replaced by band rehearsals.
  • Students are grouped according to age, level of experience and song choice.
  • The final five weeks of the season are devoted to the preparation for our annual Festival, which is a concert series held in June.
  • Students are given the opportunity to rehearse with other musicians, and then to perform at this full-production event.
  • The Festival is a great learning experience and a fabulous way for performers to show off their skill in front of a cheering audience!

  • In addition to the bands that are formed as part of our annual Festival, there is an additional Showcase Band Program which is offered in addition to regular private lessons.
  • Membership in the Showcase program requires an audition in order to establish level of performance.
  • The focus is on "the full band experience," including song arrangment, composition, rehearsal, recording, performance, stage-set up and marketing. Popularity of this program has been growing steadily... Check it out!
